Heparin Binding EGF-like Growth Factor (HB-EGF) is a growth factor expressed by monocytes and macrophages. HB-EGF mediates its effects via EGFR, ERBB2 and ERBB4 and has higher binding affinity to the EGFR than EGF itself. It is a mitogen for fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells, but not endothelial cells. HB-EGF is a non-glycosylated protein, containing 87 amino acids, with a molecular weight of 9.9 kDa.
