Galectin-3
Recombinant Human Galectin-3 is a member of a large family of carbohydrate-binding proteins. Also known as Mac-2, L29 and CBP35, Human Galectin-3 is expressed by a wide range of cell types including activated T- cells, tumor cells, macrophages, osteoclasts, fibroblasts and epithelial cells. Galectin-3 exhibits proinflammatory activities both in vitro and in vivo. Galectin-3 also chemoattracts monocytes and macrophages. Increased circulating levels of Galectin-3 correlate with several types of cancer, suggesting Galectin -3 is involved in tumor growth and metastasis. Human and Mouse Galectin-3 share 80% homology by amino acid sequence. Human Galectin-3 is a recombinant polypeptide chain.
